we have been together for 20 yrs.. the girls are almost out on their own, and you play good cop and dead .. I love you but i think it's time to sink or swim for all of you.. i'm done. I've put everything on hold as far as my life is concerned and I'm afraid I'm going to miss the boat AGAIN.. I dont want any retribution just a clean get away.. and as little as no hard feelings.. is that possible?

I read it as a loser preparing to leave HER family.
Given the need to say "I dont want any retribution just a clean get away" because typically a woman wants money when leaving, so the OP is writing this as if she "isnt even wanting that" when a man almost never thinks that way.

It's usually women that make a conscious, deliberate decision to leave. Men have affairs, or if they're not the type to have affairs, escape into work or die of stress.
