Girlboss

My confession is that I don't like the term "girlboss". Does that mean a regular "boss" is a man but if you say "girlboss" then we know it's a woman? Wait, it's not a woman, it's a girl. I thin if you just use the word boss to describe yourself, people will know what you're talking about.

I think often people want to know whether a boss in question is male or female as it can make a big difference to some folks. It's fair game IMO as there are usually (though not always) distinctions in management styles between the sexes, and sometimes they aren't subtle.

I've personally never heard the term 'girl boss' but it sounds like an innocent enough way of differentiating them. I've heard 'boss lady' and 'boss man'... I doubt using the term 'boy boss' would raise any eyebrows from the men in an office, they couldn't care less.

I'd have thought females would find the term girl boss or boss lady empowering. There's so much kerfuffle and whining over this stuff nowadays, people are so hypersensitive about everything! It makes me indifferent.

Lady boss

Sadly it's not made up. Boss is boss. Don't call it anything else. Do you say lady doctor or girl pilot or woman director. No. You don't. It's disrespectful because it's a profession. Position it demeaned by adding lady, woman, girl, or anything else. Try it. Boy pilot. Man Doctor. Male director. See what I mean? Stupid. No reason to add someones sex to their rank.

I've heard the terms 'bosslady' or 'bossman' in use. Still the boss *is* the boss, regardless of whether they're a man or a woman.

Would never use it. Totally unnecessary.

You may like enjoy watching this character from the movie 'Mother and Child' starring Naomi Watts and Annette Bening as she has an interesting take on bosses.
