I reluctantly agree with you. As much as I'd like to believe that we Canadians are different than what seems to be an increasingly corrupt US, some recent things that HAVEN'T shown up on the news has me thinking that we Canadians, just like the citizens of so many other countries, are being given the proverbial mushroom treatment by the powers that be, and what we think is the "news" is now little more than some wishy-washy politically correct entertainment program where cute pandas take precedence over actual world events. I fear for our future and see such apathy in our young people compared to when I was that age, and as most of the people of my age are too busy trying to stay healthy and keep a roof over our heads to have the energy to keep fighting for something that by rights should be fought for by the young people these policies will most affect, I feel pessimistic about our future as a "free" nation.
