Left for the other girl

I cared for you so deeply but you never felt the same. I wish you cared about me even a little. She has things I don't and won't. They appeal to you more. I don't hate her. I just hate that you are so attracted to what I'm not. Maybe I wouldn't hate it as much if you hadn't once pretended I was enough. Funny how one person can be settling while the other is smitten. I'm saying sorry to myself for wanting to love you.

I could have written this. Pretty much in the exact same situation if it's any consolation. It sucks to spend days/weeks/months questioning your self worth or going over what you could have possibly done wrong to make someone suddenly lose interest in you.

Especially when they could have saved you a ton of grief by just communicating why it wasn't going to work out so that you could get closure and not waste any more of your time.

The good news is, I think these situations are rarely due to something being wrong with you as a person, although it can definitely feel that way at the time. Sometimes things just don't work out the way you thought they would. You move on in time though, and soon enough you won't think twice about this person anymore. As one of my favourite quotes goes: "This too shall pass. It may pass like a kidney stone, but it WILL pass."

Your closure comment is bang on. Thank you! I can see you understand me and my heartache. I needed that. You're further along than me in the healing process I think but that makes your advice all the more valuable because you get it. Appreciated. -OP
