Losing sleep

I wake up at 3am and the first thing I do is reach for my smartphone. Then of course I start on Facebook or YouTube. As a result I lose a couple hours sleep or just sleep in. I've got to stop this

I hear what you're saying. Please, do yourself a massive favour : Go to the Google Play store. Search for Light Filter/Dimmer. You should get a plethora of results concerning the light emitted by your smart-phone. The best of these apps have a: 1) Blue Light Filter (BLF)
2) Sundown & Sunrise Feature
3) Dimmer
4) Back Light Dimmer*(BLD)
* In reality, the BLD is the feature most often missing from otherwise fantastic free applications. Even if you install a dimmer, the light you turn down is at the front of the smart-phone screen. Consequently, the overall light coming from the phone remains largely unaffected. You can observe this by dimming the phone's light to the minimum allowed by the app. As you dim, fix your vision to a spot behind or to the side of the phone's screen. You'll see that the light does not reduce. However, once you install a Backlight Dimmer, the light will reduce during the same experiment.

Altogether, these new functions provided by certain apps, should help you get back to sleep and remain asleep.
