I just figured it out! It's not because my manager is negligent, malicious, or lazy that they are doing their job so poorly, it's because they are just plain stupid.

The lack of intelligence and common sense is quite common among many members of management. The absence of those qualities certainly didn't stop them from getting to where they are. Brown nosing, saying the right things, making the right moves, knowing the right people in high places, and returning favours (especially of the sexual kind) often go a long way in one's climb up the corporate ladder.

...in their shoes before you assume they're stupid. Try to imagine life on the other side of that fence; being a manager can be extremely difficult. Remember that a manager's primary role is to manage people, not to do the
same job as the people they're managing. It's tedious when people claim that anyone in management only got there by doing something sleazy, since that's rarely the case. I've been a manager and the worst part of it is in trying to deal with employees who frequently act like preschoolers. I agree there are lots of bad managers, but maybe the staff also need to take responsibility for the state of things too.
