Christmas

I'm not a fan of this time of year. For most of my working life I've been in customer service and during the holidays it takes it's toll. Do we have to start with the decorations and music a full month to 6 weeks in advance? Of course not but we do, so by the time Christmas rolls around I'm done with all of it. Not to mention all the people, who are full of less that Christmas Cheers, more like rude bitterness. Hey at least you guys are taking time off, I'm usually at work for Christmas Eve and Day. If we could celebrate this holiday like any other I'd be fine with it, but stores need to make a buck and people need to consume all while telling each other that Christmas is too commercial.

I've worked retail for the 15 miserable years. Yes, Christmas time is especially bad. For one thing, I hate how the decorations and music start before Remembrance Day. It's like telling our soldiers, "that day is such a downer, we'd like to ignore you if we could and quickly get to the tree, presents, and carols."
And for unlucky schmucks like us, Christmas means being forced to listen to "Jingle Bells" for 8 hours a day all month long! You wouldn't even want to listen to your favorite song on a loop for 8 hours straight, imagine having to listen to "All I want for Christmas" non-stop. Medieval torture much?

Escape Retail! Invest in yourself and get out of retail because it pays crap, you have to take lots of crap, and in the end is it really worth all that crap? I did retail for 5 years before I realized the perks weren't perks as the job paid crap and I couldn't afford the discount crap anyways unless I didn't want to live in Vancouver.

Apologies

I was rude to a couple of retail clerks today. I am actually a nice person and have worked in retail myself. I was just very stressed with the circumstances in my life and it was the 3rd store I had been to looking for a sold out item when I had called first and was told the store had them. It wasn't your fault, I was just tired and hungry and I'm sorry for being so snippy.
