Uhm, no. The low dollar makes imported goods more expensive.

But it makes all of our exports cheaper. Tech, film, forestry, agriculture, tourism, all do much better with a low dollar.

Purchasing power parity is at about 80c. Anything above that harms the economy.

how is the low dollar hurting us unless your buying useless junk made outside Canada? And doesn't that make goods made here and your oil a better deal from Canada?
Also, say we build that pipeline and oil stays under 70 dollars a barrel guess what? oil sand is still not profitable....that without US fracking turning on at a lower price point, or the removal of the new Texas crude oil field. Do you think OPEC will drop production enough to allow oil sands or fracking or mass Russian exports to be profitable?

This is Canada. We have always been primarily an exporting country. That means when our dollar is lower, other countries want to buy from us. It is also very good for industries such as the film industry, which really benefits from a low dollar and employs a lot of local people. Do your research and you may understand why the PTB prefers a low dollar.

The reason our dollar is low is because we put all our eggs in the petroleum basket. If we had a more diversified economy, dollar would not be weak when oil prices drop

Canada can start making billions, nay, trillions, nay, we can TAKE OVER THE ENTIRE WORLD AND RUN IT FROM VANCOUVER, if we can relegalize the sale of mescaline, LSD and psilocybin before anywhere else does. If only the anti-everything crowd understood what drugs created the environmental movement, and focused on getting those back in circulation, public circulation, not clandestine, we'd all be much better off economically and in many other ways.

Everyone knows it's gonna happen somewhere first, and that place is going to rule the world. I for one want Vancouver to rule the world!
