Quoting Stats

I'm 100% tired of 90% of people quoting stats in their confessions or in conversations. They use these stats to bolster their particular argument : "a study done 20 years ago found that ___% of ____ were women", or similar remarks. So, from now on when someone does this to me I'm going to ask them to back up their supposed "evidence" with the details of where they got their information from. A hint - from anyone who's ever studied sadisticsoopsImean statistics, you can pretty much make your study show whatever you want, if you load the experiment properly. 100% true!

And then there is the history of statistics. It comes from two broad sources: gamblers and eugenicists.

is simple. Do more polls. Instead of screaming at the person on the phone do the survey so that your opinion can be accounted for. But hell it is easier to be angry, so fuck pollsters!

You would love the book "Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics". Yes, anyone can do a study that backs up whatever opinion they support. That's why there are so many "expert" opinions for hire in legal cases. My dad used to say that an expert is someone that is away from home. Damn I miss him.

People can come up with statistics to prove anything. 14% of all people know that!
