Smart Girl

My girlfriends way smarter than me. Educationally, career wise, and pretty much in every other possible way. If you ever have dated someone with a photographic memory you'll realize you can't win a lot of arguments. I am trying to improve myself by reading more books and learning a new language but the gap between us seems to be getting wider. Her friends and family think she's too good for me but I love her. I am just really scared that she's going to leave me.

don't change for people out of insecurity or fear of losing them. you'll lose them faster that way. and yourself. :)

Only she can decide whether she wants to be with you - not her friends, not her family.

Smart girls make smart choices. First, don't sell yourself short. Just because you don't share the same type of education or career doesn't mean you aren't as smart as she is. Second, if she wanted to be with someone with a specific kind of "smarts" different from yours, she wouldn't have chosen you. It's lovely that you want to learn about things she finds interesting, and it shows how much you care. She is lucky to have you.

isn't everything. Is she kind, thoughtful, honest? Do you have a strong physical and emotional connection? Do you have common interests in sports or the arts? Does she love you? There are a lot of things involved in a good relationship.

You should be proud that she chose you, with all those smarts. And I think this fear you described is pretty much the basis of the patriarchy that some men still cling to - that a woman who can think for herself is better, so they'd rather not have smart women - so just acknowledge that that's the fear, ignore it because it's ludicrous and outdated, keep bettering yourself, and you'll be smarter for it, too. Also, nobody 'wins' arguments, anyway.
