That is a very decent principle and certainly I endorse it.
But as a caveat, these are men. Certain men are ok with exchanging blows as a prelude or indeed substitute for discussion. Many a friendship has arisen in the wake of clarifying, limits-respecting punching.
I don't recommend it, but I have seen it over and over!

I felt the same about my selfish mother and sister who have a mental illness and refuse help. I have let go and forgiven I just keep my distance now.
