In need of financial advice

I confess I've been horrible with my finances. I'm around 30k in debt and don't see a way out at the moment. I haven't been able to find work which will help ease the struggle either. I don't go out or have any vices (Which is so utterly boring). My only expenses are rent, groceries, phone and bus pass. I'd love to start saving for a down payment for a future home (not in Vancouver) but at the rate I'm able to "save" that'll happen never. I can't afford to go to school unless there's some magic scholarship out there (don't even know what I'd be good at, don't want to waste another 40k loan on a bullshit diploma). Moral of the story, don't fuck up your life! It's too late for me.

There are free credit counselling services that you could seek out. Maybe they can help restructure your debt. You could also talk to a financial planner at your bank to figure out a reasonable budget.

The thing is, there are plenty of jobs out there. And these options may not what you want right now, but it's what you need to pay off your debt and get your life together. Starting in an entry level job gives you skills. With those skills you can keep growing. You aren't helpless. You can't be picky. You want a certain lifestyle so you have to be prepared to work for it. You just have to commit. Committing is 90% of the journey.

Those credit counseling services really do work. There is one called Four Pillars. My boyfriend was also around 30-40K in debt in his mid-forties, but thanks to Four Pillars and a few years of $300 monthly payments, he's almost finished with that. The stress of being in debt, missing payments, maxing credit cards and getting constant & threatening calls/letters from collection agencies was horrible, terrifying and stress-inducing. Trust me, there's no point in letting this get any worse. Get a hold of it now and just go through the humiliation with humility, vulnerability and faith that it WILL get better as soon as you start. I hope you reach out and get the help you need. These companies that are set up to help people exactly in your situation! I know it sounds hard to believe, but after seeing my boyfriend come through it, and knowing how awful it was before shit hit the fan and he finally tried Four Pillars, I am able to tell you it works. Good luck and hope you can see the light in the distance... it is there.
