That Escalated Quickly

I was at Burrard Station a little after 5 PM today, and saw a girl standing right at the top of the down escalator, fidgeting with her umbrella. When people tried to slip past her to get on the escalator, she started yelling "fuck you" and hitting people with her umbrella! I couldn't believe it! Not only did this girl have the brilliant idea to block the top of an escalator, instead of standing off to the side, but she apparently also thinks it's perfectly acceptable to hurl verbal abuse at and physically assault complete strangers. I'm surprised none of the people she hit didn't press charges. Is she a utter moron or a complete narcissist? She could be both, of course, but I'm feeling generous. It is only Tuesday, after all.

She's called a "princess".

This city is full of them. I see them on public transit all the time, placing their purses on the seat beside them so that nobody else can sit there. ( It's a royal right, apparently.)

based on your title i thought the story was going to devolve into an umbrella kung fu free for all. Very anticlimactic. 2/5 stars.

One time I saw someone topple over at the top of the escalator during rush hour and a massive dog pile ensued as people bottlenecked behind them. A time I truly wish I'd thought to have snapped a photo.

she was having a bad day and took it out on others ... psychology courses at UBC .. it sucks for other people to get abused, she must have had a horrible day ... i wish her and everyone more happier and less stressful life-days ... life can break us, life can stress us, empathy, compassion and knowledge will help us survive ourselves and each other ... this is just one perspective, that's all

My vote

I vote for moron. Or some mental health issues. I'd even be willing to bet on a developmental disability. Most of us who've been socialized and understand what it means to be socialized wouldn't behave that way.

Presumably each of us has the ability to respond. You did nothing. This story telling after the fact is it helping you those people or her, or is it just a venting, of some alienation we all feel about an inability to respond to our lives and each other in any compassionate or meaningful way.

Idiots standing at top/bottom of the escalator/steps is very common but it seems no one has the common sense to MOVE out of everyone's way while they fidget with whatever they are doing. And then we are the assholes...not them. I'm no virgin to tell those idiots that they are stupid.
"Buddy! NOT a good place to stand and text during rush hour!"
"Have you thought about moving to the side while you do that?"
I don't even say anything anymore when I'm blocked coming out of the skytrain. I plow right through you idiots.
How about when there are 4 or 5 of you in a line taking up the whole walking space on a sidewalk so I can't pass your slow ass. Or when you won't let go of your boyfriends hand while you go up the stairs. I could go on forever. Jerks.

Umbrella Girl

I was there! She was rehearsing Mary Poppins. She was prancing around singing "A Spoonful of Sugar."

A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down
The medicine go down-wown
The medicine go down
Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down
In a most delightful way!

Was she hot?

Hot women tend to go all out because they can get away with it.

The hot & crazy scale is related.

for not including the possibility that she might have a mental condition instead of just automatically ASSuming that she's just a bad person.
