Get off the tablet

It's a dinner party ffs. If you're going to play games on your friggin' tablet why didn't you just stay home?

here's a rule we have with our friends - put devices into a pile on the table. First one to touch their phone/tablet/whatever has to buy a round of drinks.

Ah, yes. It wasn't a dinner party, but I have also had that charming experience of trying to talk to someone (supposedly my friend?) who's too busy playing Candy Crush to even know what I'm saying.

So RUDE

I know it's just the way things are now, but I still think it's just incredibly rude behaviour. You might as well just tell the person you're with that you aren't interested in being with them! What just makes me furious is watching mothers with their kids and instead of interacting with the kids they spend the whole time at the beach or playground or whatever, talking or texting on their phones! The poor kids must feel completely unimportant to their own mother. It breaks my heart when I see that.

I politely grab my friends' phones and put them face down on the table. The phones that is, not my friends' face. Though I suppose both are direct, physical interactions that get people's attention. It's nice to draw people back into meatspace.
Now, I just started dating someone almost a generation younger than me. It'll be interestng to see if we'll go by the usual no texting in bed rule.
