I dunno. I am fairly active in a few community organizations, and most of the disdain seems to come from people with left-wing political views who are unable to brook disagreement. It's getting really nasty lately, because all of their opposition to Trump (this is something they seem near pathologically obsessed over...) isn't a function of "I'm an adult, and these are my political view, so, you know, I don't like him or his policies," they're a function of "I'm a kind, compassionate person, therefore I oppose Trump and his policies," the implication being that if you don't oppose Trump you're somehow emotionally defective.

Sure, we have kooky Libertarians who talk about how all taxation is theft and that therefore Government supporters are immoral criminals, but they're a minority, and I don't see them introducing this sort of stuff into public organizations in a big way. Further, everyone I've known how has that view is capable of respectfully disagreeing with an individual who believes paying taxes is a moral imperative, etc. And for the individualists who hold those views, they don't tend to make it about feelings, it's about their reason.

The namecalling is of course gradeschool behavior, but, like, I get the sense that they fundamentally do not understand how anyone could think differently from how they think. IMO individualists who rely on reason not emotion tend to recognize that there should be a "free market" in everything. Emotional socialists, not so much.
