Legalize Please

Most Canadians are on the cusp of getting over the stigma of smoking pot. Almost. We're just waiting on the Trudeau government for their campaign promise. The recent raids across the country have suddenly made the water murky. We've all waited till April 2017. We voted in Trudeau. We've waited on the guy. He said April 2017. I have grandparents who are ready to accept it. I have parents who are ready to accept it. You made a promise Trudeau. You got elected because of that promise Trudeau. A few days from now it is April. No excuses, no BS, implement what you promised to us. Let us move forward without the stigma of being "druggies" anymore.

you'll get bullshit replies from anti-pot people who don't realize there was a time when it wasn't illegal and was used in a lot of medicines with only BENEFICIAL results.

Smoke up. But keep it away from me. I'm all for you having the right to use it. I just don't think I should be forced to breath it in. Pot smokers, like cigarette smokers, currently have little regard for others who don't partake.

the stigma of being "druggies"

Pot will still be a drug, legalized or not.

There's still a stigma for being an alcoholic, despite it being legal.

Depends on amount consumed, frequency, etc.

Full Disclosure: I say this as a long time heavy pot smoker who quit a few years ago and don't miss it.

Yes, because you know, it's only legal in 28 out of 50 states.

Some of the stigma is official---teachers, for example, can't be known potheads. At least, that is what one of my BC teachers told me, that when he became a teacher, he had to promise not to talk about anything he'd done like "smoke pot." Same thing for docs, it can be a professional issue---not black and white, but, if they get too outspoken on anything, the hammer can come down about something like that.

And for those wondering if we will legalize, I went to Anne McLellan's talk at SFU last week, and she seemed pretty certain---it is coming, it's just a question of how long. I think that they want to give as many people who "jumped the gun" as possible criminal records, to prevent them from working in the industry when it goes legit, because many drug cops are mean spirited bullies. The one guy I went to highschool with who became a drug cop, he was a total loser who wasn't cool enough to get invited to any parties, and I think he was bitter about it. I wasn't invited to any parties either, but I didn't build a personal identity around "getting back at the cool kids."
