Marijuana

I wish I were more comfortable acquiring (and using) marijuana. I'm disabled and I think it might help with my symptoms, but I can't bring myself to try to talk to any of my doctors about it, out of fear of how they'd react. I also don't know where to get it or anything about different strains or how to actually use it. Feels pretty weird to be an adult Vancouverite and be this clueless about how to get and use the stuff . I know there's a zillion dispensaries out there, but how do you know which ones are actually any good, and how do you go about getting access? I know most places require a letter from your doctor. Help?

go to the dispensary and ask

Where you can get some.

I'd recommend edibles like chocolate chip cookies. Smoking works better tho.

And tell them exactly what you just wrote here. They will help you through everything. It's easier than you think!

Research, research, research!

Just do some googling- check some out online. You can even find reviews for some of them. Some dispensaries actually have a doctor on-site that can answer your questions and concerns, and can diagnose you. Medical marajuana can be a wonderful alternative to prescription pills or other medications when used correctly. And there are many ways to use it- from smoking, to tinctures, oils and edibles. There's bound to be something that will work for you. Don't be afraid! Good luck!

You don't need your doctor...

There are many places in Vancouver where you can sign up at a dispensary without a doctors note. Some are more credible than others, but they all have different ways to get a membership. All you have to do is a quick search online and most establishments have their requirements listed. Give some of them a call if all else fails and they will tell you what you need to do. I know it really helps me with my disability and I hope that more people get the help they need too.

you're not alone

although I've used it recreationally many times, I am still clueless about the various strains and what they do. However, from being with a friend who has a prescription, I was able to see that the staff in the dispensaries are extremely knowledgeable, and should be able to help you. However, I've also noted that people react quite differently to each strain, and that some people are energized by the type that's supposed to make you feel mellow, and vice-versa. I recommend starting slowly to see what works for you. Also, there are many places who have doctors they can refer you to, if you're not comfortable talking to your own.

If a storefront advertises itself...

...as a "dispensary", you may need to pay a naturopath for a prescription, but if the retail outlet is being honest, one can just plunk down their cash and get baked - just like nature intended.

Most dispensaries are good & loaded with info, the staff usually will answer all your questions you could have regarding strains. If there not too busy. Talking to people in the store can help you figure out alot.
Different strains are preference based on what your needs are or what your looking to alleviate.
If your worried about talking to your doctor (for fear of judgement), keep in mind lots of disabled people already have turned to medical Marijuana. Very common nowadays & the negative stigma is far less than in previous years.
Maybe ask someone you know to try it with them? Most younger folks know the ropes & can help you figure out wether smoking/vapeing or edibles would work for you.
I hope this helps.

Also u can just look online for clinics with an in house doctor. Book an appointment and see the in house doctor. Check the list of ailments weed helps with and make sure u say to the doctor that u have one of those ailments.

It's very simple in Vancouver. Lots of dispensaries have an on site doctor. Some of them just flat out don't care and will just sell to anyone. Go into one and ask, the people who work at these places are generally friendly and non judgemental.

Dude, if you are disabled, every doctor will help you. Marijuana might be right for you - it wasn't for me - i've found low doses of other drugs work better for my symptoms.

Go to to the older dispensaries - the BC Pain Society is very sympathetic to legitimate disabled and will help you. Most need only a signed, notarized document you won't re-sell to minors etc. NOT a doctor's prescription.

Stop suffering alone
