Music at Work

All well and good if listening to music motivates you at work, but how about some ear buds? My coworker sits next to me and streams some same idiotic modern pop station. I am forced to hear the same 20 songs (the biggest hits playing twice) every freaking work day. Argh!

It's beyond my comprehension

I can't figure out what there is to like about any of that music. It makes my ears bleed. It literally makes me angry and gives me anxiety. It's a sad state of affairs out there in the world of pop culture.

Those of us stuck in retail feel your pain. In grocery stores you have to listen to "Drops of Jupiter" on a fucking loop all day. If you work at the Gap or some other clothing store, its even worse because the volume is turned all the way up!

Remember when rock ruled the world? It's going to happen again. Day in day out people are saying their feelings about 'new' music and it's never good. I always have ear buds in when I go out because I can't stand the shit music that's being played.

It's not the genre

The problem for me isn't the genre of music, just the distraction. I'm extremely sensitive to external stimuli, such as noise, talking, and especially music. I find it very difficult to concentrate when I'm in that type of environment, since I don't have the ability to tune it out. IMO, any office environment should not allow employees to listen to music unless it's entirely on headphones. Some people are like me, and of course others may not have the same musical taste. If productivity is the goal, then policies need to protect the sensitive people from this type of distraction.

Talk to him or her. Calmly and quietly, before the rage hits and you look like the crazy one. Just like I have to talk to the moron who sits next to me who doesn't turn her effing phone on silent. Her ringtone haunts my goddamn dreams.
