Tired of the double standard

There's a thing going around social media of how hot Justin Trudeau was when he was younger, comparing him to a young Joe Biden who apparently was also pretty hot. But of course, we've been hearing since election day just what a hottie our PM is, how he shows up in every top 5 list of hot world leaders, how that shirtless picture of him captivated the world and so on. Can you just imagine for a second if our PM were a woman, and these comments were flying around? The feminazis, feminists, media, and hey, you know what -- every single normal person as well -- would be outraged. Me, as a normal white Canadian guy would be outraged at the sexualization and objectification of our leader. But of course, since I'm not as hot as our PM, mentioning anything of the sort gets scoffs. Yeah, I get it ladies, go ahead and fawn over our fearless leader -- but for chrissake, at least admit to the ridiculous double-standard to which you're holding us all accountable. You can't have it both ways. Well, I guess you can because at present, clearly, you do. But it shouldn't be this way.

I see your point, sexism, leering etc.

But as a dude, frankly I wish more women (or men, I don't care) would leer at me because it would mean that my diet was finally working.

Also, it wouldn't threaten or demean me. This is not a world where men are assumed to be only good for fucks, where men tend to hit a certain glass ceiling in industry.

From that point of view, Justin has nothing to worry about if he is a piece of ass, which he is. What, it's holding him back?

The situation is not true for women, yet. I look forward to the coming day of equality where we can all equally admire people's asses with no negative repercussions or ill intent!!

Oh Please

Universal childcare and equal pay. What is your problem? Whah "normal white Canadian guy" you have it so bad and all women are to blame. Fascists generalize and label people and segment entire populations into labels like you did here, and its all so normal all your writing sounds the same blah blah blah.

hey dude

The reason it's different guy is because we as women have gone through years, decades of harassment, abuse and being looked at and treated like am object. How about when you have the experience off 200yrs+ being treated like garbage like an ornament then I won't look at men as objects. How about that? I wouldn't consider myself a feminist at all either. Just a Women who understands the difference between why it's different. Seriously

Trudeau isn't held to a higher standard than other politicians regarding his appearance. Female politicians are. Even the tone of the comments made about Trudeau is not the same as the tone of the image/appearance-based comments made about female politicians. I really think it's a part of his public image that Trudeau intentionally cultivates, because it works in his favour. It's a tool he uses to increase his power, not something that is forced upon him.

I'm still more interested in policy.

Meh, not really....

You need to put things in context. There SHOULD be a double standard if you see it in historical terms. For most of history, women have been relegated to being second-class citizens. Put bluntly, men valued them as sex objects. And their value as sex objects depended on their level of physical attractiveness.
Women are STILL battling against this legacy of misogyny, so that's why there is outrage when some man starts ranking/judging women according to their looks.
Historically, men have not been valued for their physical attractiveness. They had the privilege of being esteemed for their other talents such as intelligence, creativity etc. Because we live in a patriarchal society, there isn't really much at stake when a man is admired for his looks. Its because it is a given that a man is worth more than his looks.
So you see, when we resort to the obnoxious habit of talking about the looks of female leaders, we are essentially "piling on" when she is already fighting so hard to be taken seriously for the other qualities she has to offer. And that's why it is unseemly when we talk about a female leader's looks but not when we discuss a man's looks.

the reason

there is this double-standard is because guys WANT to be sex objects,
and women are tired of it.

Come on Man

So what do you hate the fact that men and women like a good looking man? You generalize and make such oblique points to back a totally subjective reality. Alienated.? Lonely? Do you have any friends? It's pretty easy to make people into objects, like have have here, blaming people who fight for equality. You know talk to someone be real. The internet is not real. People are people regardless of gender and there are is no normal.

It was the same for Pierre

This isn't new in other words. Like many others have pointed out already, he is not only judged by his looks but by his performance as a political leader. The fact that he's easy on the eyes just gives people more to talk about and of course it's more good publicity, right? Don't even bother trying to get women to be angry about it because you really aren't going to win. If men had had to deal with the level of historical discrimination and objectification that women have you may possibly understand why most of us aren't going to feel terribly sad about the injustice of it all. Sorry about that.

Why the fuck?

Hello special snowflake,

Did you conveniently forget that for the last 10 decades if any woman dared to speak out about the objectification of female bodies she was labeled a frigid bitch or an ugly fat dyke or any lovely combination of other such slurs, or....wait for it... a feminazi? Your normal white Canadian guy sad feelings are cute.
