Older worker guy

i have this feeling I'm being discriminated against about my age (58) at work. 2 of my managers have made comments like "at your age" or "that guy is half your age". And a few other comments. Paranoid perhaps but it's somewhat unsettling.

It's the result

of the youth culture obsession that started some decades ago.

As a result, the wisdom of experienced people isn't valued as much anymore... and unfortunately makes getting older less appealing.

Though personally, I can't wait to be able to stay home and read and watch movies all day and not have to feel guilty about it cuz I'm retired motherfuckers! =P

Instead of allowing this to unsettle you, this could be a huge source of fun for you - you could talk about the 1800's and how it was back then., like you are a time traveller. Or math problems - if a guy like me who is three and a half times older than you can do all the work half as fast ....

retire then.... you're old enough to get out - I did at 53 - was the best decision I ever made. I hate the fucking millennial whiny goofs. It's great to watch them drive like idiots to their pathetic little McJob and pretend they make a difference serving you ! hahahaha

Everyone eventually settles into irrelevance. Make the best of your station in life and wait for grandchildren to spoil.

Ageism is real

My Dad pretty much was shoved out of the workforce once he hit a certain age. Us kids suffered with my mom trying to keep the house afloat on one income.

Comments like "at your age" etc are out of line. They are verbal slights and are demeaning and make you feel like you don't belong there.

Can you throw the ball back in their court as in "What do you mean, 'At my age?' Can you clarify?" Hopefully if you push back, they'll realize what they're saying is disrespectful.

They are trying to motivate you by using negative comments instead of positive feedback. In other words they suck at being managers. You could try writing them up for discrimination?
