Dumb

I'm starting a new job and am scared shitless. For someone my age I have barely any job experience. I generally feel less intelligent than others and it sucks because it's like God made me just smart enough to know I was dumb. Couldn't he have just made me 100% of an idiot? That way I wouldn't be so embarrassed by my lack of knowledge and brain capacity.. Hopefully this job lasts. I try to positively build myself up and avoid being so negative but it's so hard not to be sometimes. Maybe I'm thinking too much into things and taking life too seriously. I don't know.

Turn up early for work.

Do exactly what you're told.

Keep your eyes and ears open.

Don't take unnecessary days off, ever.

The ego sometimes tricks you into thinking you are unique. Everyone is scared shitless. Maybe not all the time, but from time to time. Most people aren't that smart either. You're just part of the herd.

I'm not scared shitless. Ever.

self-awareness

The fact that you are sufficiently self-aware to be concerned seems to indicate that you are pretty smart. Most people feel like frauds in some aspect of their lives, and a new workplace can be intimidating. Do your best, show initiative, and be enthusiastic. You'll be great!

that well-written paragraph yourself, you are not dumb.

Neither am I. A situation is either possible to deal with, in which case you want to remain calm and rational, or it is impossible to deal with, in which case you want to remain calm because there is simply no point to doing anything else. Maybe we're super-men who are above this herd thing that guy is talking about.

We really need to stop paying attention to iQ points. It's not easy to tell who is smart, and there are so many valuable stories and lessons. And our learning capacities are pretty close to unstoppable. I think a good attitude is more important, and will take you farther.

Stupid people think they are smart.
Smart people know that they don't know everything.
You sound like you belong to the latter category.
