I'll Pass

At my job, lunch is unpaid. Some guy has gotten promoted and on Friday we are expected to go out for a long and expensive lunch as a department in his honour. He's never said a word to me in 2 years, I'll pass.

To not getting promoted. And be petty.

It seems the Peter Principle has lifted you as far as you'll go.

not really, just being practical. i don't really want to stay at work until 7pm on friday night or spend 4X as much money on lunch. besides, take your peter p and write about it elsewhere (i've read your comments here before) - you're not really that clever. in my business, being promoted means forfeiting your rights as a human being to the management.

Your company..

should be paying for your time for the lunch, if they are asking you to go out for it. Every time I have had some drawn out company lunch, I have been paid for my time, and the meal was provided/paid for by the company.

It's not even legal for them to ask you to attend a two hour lunch, and not be compensated for it.

If I wasn't being paid for it, or if lunch wasn't at least provided, I wouldn't go either.

stuff like this is why I became self employed and never looked back.
