Investments and Nearsightedness - It's okay until it's not okay

Our common problem as humans may be our nearsightedness. We don't make friends until realize we're lonely, don't eat as we should until the doc points it out, don't spend less to invest more until we've spent years in the rat race, don't replenish natures resources as we consume until we notice that summer is no longer sunny. All I want is to be long sighted.

No You Don't

"All I want is to be long sighted."

If you're one of "those people," the masses of people who "live in the moment" won't want you around, because you'll be thinking about the future instead of just "enjoying." People want other myopic people around---they tend to tolerate planning if it is making them money, but then they only care about that, not for any large-scale concerns.

Humanity, like any complex system, does not make everyone the same. If you have common problems, you should enjoy them---you really don't want perspective, it hurts. Imagine worrying about the consequences of everything you do, especially if you realize that our society makes it pretty much impossible not to hurt the planet/other people in order to enjoy a "good life."

Too much foresight isn't good either

I jump the gun and try to put out fires before they've even reached me, only to find that I can't take any action until the fire is actually on my fire.
