I'm getting more annoyed at how my SO keeps their home untidy and disorganized. Generally, I keep my own place organized (keep clothes off of the floor, recycle papers I don't need, etc.). I'm not one to want to change anything about someone that I care about so I've suggested helping with a polite decline. It's really bothering me to the point that I want to avoid coming over because I find that when you have company, keeping a generally clean place is a level of accommodation and respect. I think this "small issue" stems from thinking about the future with my SO - if we were to take the next step (move in together), I am not their parent/maid/housekeeper.

It is possible to find out if someone has similar values & goals as you
BEFORE you become a couple.

I get being annoyed by this, but I'd say it seems clear that this person does not WANT you to be their maid/housekeeper if they've refused to let you clean up, no?

I agree with you

However, if you aren't down with just cleaning up after them if you took that step then it ain't gonna work. I my BF is messy and he stays with me a lot. He leaves his clothes in a pile on my bedroom floor and never cooks, washes dishes or cleans the bathroom but I knew that going in so I don't hold it against him. He's lazy but he's sweet and works hard and loves the crap outta me so I put up with his downfalls.
