Militant Pedestrian

Next cyclist who denies me right of way is getting my umbrella through their front spokes, and I mean it!

Crack. Down.

We've spent all this money on proper infrastructure for their safety but they continue to threaten ours by riding down the sidewalk.

Being a shitty human should cost you a boatload in fine, car or bike. Enforce the rules!

The problem

Cyclists think they are pedestrians and vehicles when it suits them. It's a lose, lose for everyone else. It's aggravating trying to get around downtown now with all those empty bike lanes while the traffic is packed to the tits. I guess our mayor rides his bike around his private traffic free street.

escalation leads to further escalation.

Where does this happen to you all the time? The only times I've been threatened by a bicycle rider has been when some idiot decided to go the wrong way on the seawall, especially around that blind corner south of Third Beach.

However, almost every week I have to dodge some car while in the crosswalk, the driver half-crazed by traffic and their poor decision to leave too late to get to where they have to go. Like, how do you go to make a right turn without turning your dumb head to check the crosswalk first?

I'm sorry, but this is just hate-bait for the commuter crowd and those obsessed with our silly mayor.

Lies

Vancouver City claims to have a "pedestrian first" policy. This claim is false. Bicyclists are using sidewalks and startling pedestrians even on streets with painted or dedicated bike lanes.

Just a few days ago, I noticed a bicyclist speed along a sidewalk and precariously squeeze his way between a woman and her daughter who were walking on the sidewalk. The mother and the daughter were petrified. I wondered the reason behind his haste. He stopped just a block later in front of a marijuana store.

Oh really

Maybe if the pedestrians would actually walk where and when they're supposed to it would help. Such as, don't cross the road when the hand signal is showing, walk on the sidewalk or paths designated for pedestrians instead of walking on the road where I, as a cyclist, am supposed to be. Only today I had to dodge at least 10 pedestrians ambling down the cycling path completely oblivious, and even more walking on the road when the walking path was only 6 feet away and totally empty of people!!! Talk about entitlement and bad attitudes! They refuse to move even when they're clearly in the wrong. Ignorant.

When I'm walking, I don't mind pausing for a cyclist or jogging a few steps to expedite movement through an intersection. As a radical move, I even smile at them, because I know we're all just trying to share space. This is the ballet of the city; we don't have to be against one another.

Do you mean that errant pedestrians deserve what's coming their way from bicyclists?

If you ram your umbrella into their spokes,

you may trigger a rage-response that will make your initial annoyance seem trivial.
Anyone who physically attacks a stranger or their property is taking their life in their hands. Some people are right on The Edge. Some are just plain crazy.
And if you're female, don't assume that your gender will automatically spare you from an unstable person's violent reaction.
Be smart . Control yourself.
