I think that I've learned my lesson about buying second hand crap from strangers. Every time, no matter how good of a deal it seems, there's something wrong with the item that eventually or suddenly needs to be fixed. There's something to be said for warranties....

Why do you trust people you don't know?
I suggest using your hands a bit and learn how to fix things.
I can fix some electronic devices. Laptops, Cell phones, Gaming consoles....It's good to have skills...especially since these devices do last awhile and will need fixing. Labour is where the money is made so pick up a screw driver once in awhile, eh.

If it's old, don't bother with it. Buy new. Okay, you just convinced me to get a divorce. Thanks!

I've never made a bad second hand purchase.

Ever.

And saved tons while doing so.

New things can be faulty too. If ordered online and delivered, costs of return can exceed initial payout.
Caveat emptor as per always but don't diss second hand. I've bought many such things that outlasted newer items.
Re-use, Re-purpose, Recycle is the mantra of this era (and the only option available in the following one).

Agree with you, just bought a "barely used" O/H projector for $300, it's gone kaput after 6 weeks with little white dots all over the screen
I thought is was my own eyes that had gone wrong at first but no , some electronic innard has failed
It will cost $300 to get it fixed ( with no warranty on the fix) so it's into the garbage
