Flashbacks

Sometimes I get these intense flashbacks. I've had a tough time letting go of you and I think that this may be part of the reason. The flashbacks and dreams are extreme even though it's been over 6 years. I can feel you pressing up against me, your lips on mine, you whispering in my ear and my whole body reacts. Most of the time it comes out of nowhere when I'm doing something meaningless that does not take any focus. I think I need to do some research on how to rid myself of flashbacks. Even if they are good, it's not productive or helpful to me. Any tips?

If it is dreams...

... I know that I didn't really dream when I smoked a gram or so of pot a day, which I quit, and now I am having all of these horrible dreams about "the one that got away." I hate it. Unfortunately, smoking pot makes my back ache for some reason!

This happens to me too! I'm not alone thank god. I don't want anymore years of this either. I don't want to feel someone in such detail who doesn't feel me in the same way or even close. Please help us overcome this!

I Have the same situation going on in my life.Decided to get therapy to let go.Wasting time and years on someone no longer in your life is not good for your emotional well being or self esteem.I should know.

It's part of you

If you loved someone, then in some sense the relationship continues even though it is mostly theoretical or buried in the past. I can tell you about certain kisses from decades ago, myself.

I think it's good that our mind does not wholly let go of important events, whether pleasurable or horrific. I see them as markers on the path that brought us here. Or moments that taught us something - what we want to avoid, or to have again.

My unsolicited advice is to accept that you remember this person and this feeling. There are now core memories from that relationship.

It's not an obstacle to progress, it won't keep you from your future (which is happening regardless) and it can't hurt you anymore than you let it hurt you.
