Ripoff for replacement of electronic car keys

where do they get off charging so much for these keys? You can almost buy a used car for the bucks they demand as ransom. Same for any electronic panel on an appliance, you can literally buy a new stove for the price of the electronic display panel. Let's go back to a horse and buggy and a wood burning stove!

I notice a lot of new cars (from the past 2 decades) have so many computerized options and features, I expect them to go breaking down quickly without anyone knowing how to actually fix them.
I had my grandfather's old 70's V6 boat of a car, there were no mysteries how to fix it until the suspension went on it.

TOTALLY Agree! I dropped my car key and Mazda wanted $450 to replace it. Plus tax. A standard key replacement (no clicker) was $150.
Scam.

Newfangled cars these days also have onboard diagnostics. Sure they're not stone-axe simple like back in the day but they can also tell you what's wrong. You just need a little knowledge, a little elbow grease and a little diagnostic reader that you can pick up at the Pneu Canadien for 99 Wayne Gretzkys.

Maybe the part of the repair issue is that nobody knows how to fix anything anymore. I'm the only person I know in my engineering program who can repair a chair or a bicycle. It's the darndest thing.

Now regarding keys, yes it's pretty expensive. My parents got a fancy computerised stove and it kept screwing up until there were no more spare parts available. These days they have a stove with knobs, they turn, on and off and nothing breaks. So there are definitely times when a simple solution is a better one. Maybe simple keys are a better option. Maybe.

My push button door opener on my fob is failing on my 2 year old Tacoma. Took it back and they replace the battery but it still only works with one press out of 5. At least I still have the key to open manually.

My wife's works fine. I think I got mine wet in my pocket duck hunting in the rain last season.
