I know not many say would this but if I can choose my parents before I was born I definitely won't choose either of mine. My mom is a horrible, self centred person where pride takes over love, and to tell you the truth I don't think she has much love to give. My low self esteem issues probably have derived from both them. Every time I hear of my friends' closeness with their parents or see strangers hanging out with their parents, enjoying a movie, a meal, or walking along the park, and genuine good time, I get so sad inside, wishing I could experience that. Maybe next lifetime.
When I see a father's closeness with his daughter it hurts even more. To all mothers and fathers out there, love your kids and laugh with them...and always tell them verbally that you love them. You don't want your kids hating you!

Remember those feelings - because they will make you a fabulous parent some day.
And having children of your own, and treating them the way you wish you'd been treated, is a great way to undo the damage of your own upbringing. It will bring you tremendous healing.
