I cannot believe that women now have the luxury (she says tongue in cheekily) of applying primer for their face and eyes (sorry I believe I may have left out the lips as well) before applying the main layer of goop. How much more goop do we really need on our faces?........the cosmetics industry must be laughing their asses off at the money being dumped on primer. I walked into a store to purchase my usual basics, and I mean the basics, and the first thing I get up-saled to is primer......I laughed.

Primer is important in certain makeup applications, and with certain skin types. If you don't find it useful then that's good money you can save. a lot of women don't require mascara, or foundation, or lipstick but it isn't necessary to laugh and go "hahahaha my lips are already pink! What a joke this is to offer me lipstick!!"

A high SPF, non-oily sunscreen works as a primer. Get this: someone tried to upsell me to buy "lower lash mascara" yesterday! What next? Lower body moisturizer and left side of the head shampoo?

You obviously don't have greasy eyelids, for most of my adult life I wish I was able to wear eyeshadow, only I got held back because it always creases and smudge.
Then I found out about eyeshadow primer.....and wow, no more creasy eyeshadow and it stays dry looking the entire day.
I agree with not spending useless $ contributing to the cosmetics industry (wasteful) but primer is necessary!
