its nice to have interests, but the girls i meet in Vancouver seem to do hobbies all wrong. They act like they are master bakers, or famous chefs or skilled jewelers etc and i feel like i have to be supportive of their crappy skills and even crappier creations.

Women have supported men and their good, bad and crappy skills for hundreds of years... I'm glad you now know what it feels like. Just remember someone you know is supporting you too regardless of what they actually think.

You can throw a ball, so yaaay.
But unless you are actually going to make money doing it,and either play football(NFL, or Baseball)
shoot a puck, (ok, you talented hockey player),
ski or board (what? YOU are playing on the Olympic team??, fabulous),
poker (Here you come Texas Hold'em), etc
Stop wasting so much time on your hobbies, and help me make these plastic rhinestone earrings.

wrong "yaaaay". the difference between guys playing sports and the above - is the guys do it because they enjoy the activity. the girls want to PROVE they are Cultured with hobbies they just recently learned from youtube videos, etsy and epicurious.

This tread cracks me up! If it bugs you so much find a girl that doesn't have any hobbies and that will annoy you even more. At least she's trying something new for crying out loud....And, practice makes perfect.....IDIOT!

Why discourage people from having hobbies? Life without is work, sleep, eat, watch tv. Who cares if we're good or bad. When I'm cooking I like to act like I'm a master chef. Why not?

How old are you? Why do you think "the girls want to PROVE they are Cultured with hobbies they just recently learned" ? Hey Athanasius, I agree with Brick and Nat. Why it is so difficult for you to support someone who enjoys "craft-making" ? What about the original poster thinking ..."the girls i meet in Vancouver seem to do hobbies all wrong."... Lol. What makes you think that there is a "right way" and "a wrong way" about a hobby craft making? What makes you "an expert"? Let's see your work? What are you good at? You really don't care for her, otherwise you'd shut the fuck up about it let alone complain here --so what is the point of being with her? Maybe so that you have someone to put down and criticize? You're making a huge issue out of something she enjoys doing. Shows what a control freak loser you are. Your finding fault and criticizing something she enjoys doing has more to do with your unhappiness and dissatisfaction with your life-- not hers. I hope you are not a father because I feel your loathing self-criticisms and self-hate would deter anything from growing let alone "being". Grow the hell up. Learn to play well with others.

nothing wrong with hobbies (done quietly). the thing is hobbies are FORCED upon victims in Vancouver. you don't have to eat a guys hockey puck, but he will have to eat your mushy pie. These crafty hobbies always end up with sharing and gift-giving. i end up feeling bad for the girl's embarrassing creations. if you are just learning to bake, do it alone - don't share with everyone you know.

I'm actually on your side on this one. I love my boyfriend but he's constantly bugging me to express my creative side and sell my shit when I'd rather not take part in any stupid crafts or make money schemes like all his stupid hipster ex girlfriends. I'd rather be active and spend my time outside than sit inside making a fucking sock for a week.
