Win tickets to the 28th annual Cherie Smith JCC Jewish Book Festival
Enter to win a pair of tickets to the 28th annual Cherie Smith JCC Jewish Book Festival's opening-night gala and reception, featuring New York author Shalom Auslander
Few writers can live up to the stereotype of the mad, iconoclastic genius, but Shalom Auslander gets as close as anyone writing today. Writing with phenomenal craft, and a masterly literary intelligence driving his breezy language; his sentences burst with sly allusions to writers from Tadeusz Borowski to Samuel Beckett. The New York Times describes him as "staggeringly nervy… Auslander is an absurdist with a deep sense of gravitas…bringing to mind Woody Allen …and a libido-free version of Philip Roth… he succeeds shockingly well." Nominated for the Koret Jewish Book Award for writers under 35, Auslander has published stories and articles in the New Yorker, the New York Times Magazine, GQ, and Tablet, and is a regular contributor to NPR radio.
The 2012 JCC Jewish Book Festival, running from November 24 to 29, brings together a stunning range of celebrated literary and artistic talent from near and far. This year's line-up of authors is particularly engaging, timely and controversial. Whether you prefer to be poked and prodded into a different world view, laugh, and cry in the same breath, want to know more about the inner life of your pooch or simply get together with fellow book lovers to celebrate a particular book and its author—it's all here at the JCC Jewish Book Festival. For six days, the festival presents innovative literary events, including unique meet-the-author opportunities, literary readings, and panel discussions, a foodie event, the annual book club event, writing and self-publishing workshops, children's authors, film-screenings, and two onsite bookstores.
Festival authors include Tzeporah Berman; novelist Lilian Natel with host CBC's Sheryl MacKay; author Ilan Danjoux; psychologist and dog expert Stanley Coren; gay-rights champion Gil Hovav; and Giller Prize longlist nominee Cary Fagan.
