Theatre for Living has created cutting edge, controversial, hard-hitting art and entertainment since 1981. This year, Theatre for Living presents maladjusted, a unique and innovative forum and play that encourages community dialogue around mental health. Created and performed by patients and caregivers, maladjusted explores the effects of a mechanized mental-health system in a powerful way, weaving together three narratives that demonstrate the different ways a mechanized approach to mental health affects both people accessing care and people providing it. Maladjusted seeks to engage audiences in meaningful dialogue around mental health, giving community members a platform to voice ideas around humanizing the mental-health care system. The process is fun, profound, entertaining, and full of surprises.
