Win a pair of tickets to see Compagnie Käfig, presented by DanceHouse

Four choreographers with very different styles. Eleven dancers from the slums of Brazil. An artistic director steeped in the culture of hip-hop. These influences, from classical to contemporary, inform Käfig Brasil. The production from Centre Chorégraphique National de Créteil et du Val-de-Marne Compagnie Käfig—directed by Mourad Merzouki—has toured the world and is now coming to Vancouver.

Following the international success of CORRERIA and AGWA, two previous CCN Créteil et du Val-de-Marne productions that utilized the talents of the Brazilian dancers, Merzouki knew he wanted to encourage their desire to discover and encounter other worlds of dance. The result is Käfig Brasil. In the production, four renowned choreographers each contributes a different style for the dancers: Anthony Egéa explores moments of ecstasy and abandonment, Céline Lefèvre brings poetry, Denis Plassard offers pointed humour, and Octavio Nassur references hip-hop and Capoeira, the Brazilian martial art. A fifth piece has been crafted by Compagnie Käfig—the dancers—themselves. The music ranges from classical to contemporary, from Vivaldi to EDM artist Deadmau5.

This show is a must-see for everyone who loved the 2014 DanceHouse presentation of Brazilian dance company Grupo Corpo, and fans of adventurous dance of any stripe.
