The Georgia Straight newspaper has thrilled, enraged, educated, and enlightened Vancouverites for five decades. 

To celebrate 50 years of uninterrupted coverage of the local music scene, the Georgia Straight is inviting musicians that have scored the cover of the Straight to perform a live acoustic set in an intimate setting. #StraightUnplugged, a yearlong series, will showcase some of Vancouver’s biggest musical acts. This contest is the only way to score tickets for these performances.

This month you have the chance to win a pair of tickets to see our opening act, Yukon Blonde, one of Vancouver’s most shape-shifting bands.  Having arrived on the scene sounding like ’70s California at its most sun-flooded, Yukon Blonde has gone on to establish itself as one of the city’s biggest indie acts. Their last big local show was headlining the massive Khatsahlano Street Party!

To celebrate its 50th birthday, the Georgia Straight will also highlight 50 must-see events, called the Straight 50, this year in Vancouver. You can find them listed here.
