Win tickets to the Burnaby Roots & Blues Festival at Deer Lake Park

With a fresh and eclectic lineup, the seventeenth annual Burnaby Blues + Roots Festival returns to Deer Lake Park on Saturday, August 6. The family-friendly event features a full day of continuous music across three stages, plus food vendors and activities for fans of all ages. This year’s lineup includes Colin James, Frazey Ford, Cyril Neville and the Royal Southern Brotherhood, Como Mamas, Lindi Ortega, Cecile Doo-Kingue, and more.

      Colin James

Colin James’ 1988 self-titled debut featuring his 2 self-penned hits “Voodoo Thing” and “Five Long Years,” was the fastest-selling album in Canadian history. Mentored by the legendary guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan, this iconic Canadian artist has topped the charts as a pop vocalist, a blues guitar player, and led the swing revival with his Little Big Band.  Colin has performed for the Queen, sold multi-platinum many times over and continues to sell out shows coast to coast. A six-time Juno Award winner and multiple Maple Blues Award winner, Colin continues to innovate with every new record.  In 2014, Colin will be heading back into the studio to record his 17th full length album.

      Frazey Ford

Frazey Ford, known as a founding member of the beloved alt-folk band The Be Good Tanyas, returned last October with her second solo effort, Indian Ocean -- a lush album filled with songs about love, contrition and being bold. Part of what gives Indian Ocean its gilded edge is the work of Al Green’s band, The Hi Rhythm Section, the iconic architects of the famous singer's instrumental Memphis soul sound. Many consider Indian Ocean one of the top releases of 2014, an acclaimed country soul gem that invited comparisons to Cat Powers The Greatest.

Cyril Neville and the Royal Southern Brotherhood

Cyril Neville is known for his amazing vocals and percussion skills as a member of the Grammy Award winning Neville Brothers and the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame nominees the Meters. What really sums up the life of this Neville is his band Royal Southern Brotherhood. Royal Southern Brotherhood released their self-titled debut CD in 2012. Today Royal Southern Brotherhood's line up has changed for the better. The band has become one with their music and it may have taken a change of guitarist to get there but the entire journey has been well worth it. Mike Zito and Devon Allman broke out of the band that brought them to the music world’s attention in 2014 and were replaced by two ace guitarist Nashville's Bart Walker and Austin Texas guitarist Tyrone Vaughan. John Hiatt once commented, “They are not a band, they are an extravaganza!” A sound and sight event of pure talent mixed in with love for their art, the music and their fans, the Loyal Royals.
