Win tickets to Dance Allsorts: the response

The April edition of Dance Allsorts features Orbits and Surrender, two new works by one of Vancouver’s most dynamic and inspiring contemporary dance companies: the response.

Orbits is a collection of dances serving as work-in-progress performance experiments that act as movement research towards the company’s next creation of an interstellar world. The work draws inspiration from universal space, the chemical reactions and elements in our universe that are also present in our bodies and the curious explorer that naturally resides in human beings as a species. Bodies dissolve, revolve, expand and rebuild to create an entertaining and eclectic collection of ideas and images, both choreographed and improvised. Orbits will also feature dancers from the company’s developing Apprentice Program.

Surrender, a new solo created and performed by Amber Funk Barton, will also be featured as part of the program. Surrender is a National Arts Centre co-production and saw its premiere October 2014 at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, Ontario.

Dance Allsorts: the response is on April 19 at 2 p.m. The performance will be followed by a Q&A with the artists. Free dance workshop with Amber Funk Barton at 3:15 p.m.
