North Vancouver's Anatoli Souvlaki opening Yaletown location: The Greek by Anatoli

A long-running Greek restaurant on the North Shore is getting ready to put down Vancouver roots.

Anatoli Souvlaki, a family-run business that has served North Vancouver for over 30 years, will open an offshoot, The Greek by Anatoli, at 1043 Mainland Street in Yaletown on March 27.

The location was previously occupied by the short-lived Good Wolfe Kitchen & Bar. Despite a name change to Good Wolf in fall 2014 (following chef Josh Wolfe’s departure), the restaurant shuttered before the new year.

Brothers Iani and Alexi Makris, whose parents opened Anatoli Souvlaki in 1984, have partnered with Daniel Bergman to open Anatoli’s second location. The restaurant will have 65 seats with a patio opening late spring.

The menu at the Greek by Anatoli will include both traditional Greek dishes and new twists, such as rabbit "popsicles".

While the North Shore location focuses on traditional Greek dishes, the Greek by Anatoli will offer modern twists from executive chef Scott Robertson, whose credentials include the Westin Resort & Spa in Whistler.

One example is the rabbit “popsicle”, a rabbit loin wrapped in double-smoked bacon and stuffed with housemade lamb sausage.

For diners who prefer to take the traditional route, spanakopita (spinach and feta baked in filo pastry), dolmathes (grape leaves stuffed with ground meat and rice), saganaki (pan-fried sheep’s cheese), moussaka (a baked dish with layers of eggplant and ground beef), and roasted leg of lamb are all expected on the menu.

Wine, beer, and creative cocktails will also be offered. The Greek by Anatoli will open every day for lunch and dinner, with brunch offered on weekends.
