The B.C. Craft Brewers Guild has just released the second beer in its collaboration series.

United Front Braun bier is a traditional German Keller bier made with Vienna malts. It's a joint effort between Vancouver Island Brewery and Steel & Oak Brewing Company.

VIB recently celebrated 30 years in business while S&O opened in New Westminster almost a year ago.

Ken Beattie, executive director of the B.C. Craft Brewers Guild, told the Straight last fall that the idea behind the collaboration series is to pair a smaller-capacity brewery that wouldn’t have been able to produce the beer on its own with a larger-capacity brewery. The first collaboration beer, called Maiden Voyage, launched in October 2014 as a collaboration between Four Winds Brewing Co. and Central City Brewers & Distillers.

VIB’s brewmaster Ralf Pittroff worked with S&O’s Peter Schulz to develop the United Front beer. It's available in 650-mL "bombers" at private liquor stores and will be coming to government liquor stores soon.

United Front can also be found on draught in Vancouver and will be featured during several events at Vancouver Craft Beer Week. It will be served at the Guild’s Rookies and Legends evening this Friday (June 5); tickets are still available.

United Front will also be on tap for sampling at the VCBW Craft Beer Festival this Saturday and Sunday (June 6 to 7) at the PNE Fairgrounds. Tickets are still available for both festival days.
