A popular Vancouver wine bar is expanding its offerings for both day and night. Uva Wine Bar (900 Seymour Street) recently launched Uva by Day, a new Italian-inspired lunch menu, and has bolstered its cocktail program with Lauren Mote joining the team.

Uva by Day comes in addition to the breakfast and lunch menus already offered at the Golden Plates award-winner for Best Wine Bar. Uva, which works in conjunction with Cibo Trattoria next door, services guests staying at the Moda Hotel located above and opens daily at 8 a.m.

Executive chef Faizal Kassam, who looks after the food at both restaurants, has added to his lunch menu of salads, pasta dishes, and Panini sandwiches. Uva by Day allows customers to order hot sandwiches and soups to go. Sandwiches ($10 to $14) include the braised pork shoulder topped with apple-bacon jam and salsa verde; the confit chicken and prosciutto, which comes with grilled radicchio and fig marmalade; and the crushed meatball with melted provolone, basil, and tomatoes. The Vegetale is a hearty vegetarian option with grilled zucchini, eggplant, roasted garlic aioli, olives, and goat cheese pressed between crusty bread.

Meanwhile, Mote is now leading the drink program at Uva as the restaurant’s new bar manager. The mixologist and sommelier best known as the co-owner of Bittered Sling Extracts—a local line of handcrafted bitters—is in the process of revamping Uva’s cocktail list. Sip on the wine-infused Stemmed or the patriotic riff on a Vieux Carré, which Mote has renamed the Vieux Canadien.
