The Vancouver Christmas Market opens this Friday (November 22) and runs until December 24 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre plaza (650 Hamilton Street). Among the cute little wooden huts, Das Deutsche Nudel Haus stands out. If the glorious smell of fried onions and bacon doesn’t draw you in, the sight of a giant skillet full of noodles will.

Along with spaetzle, the shop sells schupfnudeln, hearty, oblong rolled noodles that are as much fun to try to pronounce as they are to eat. A sharable serving comes with sauerkraut and bacon for $9.50.
