A popular Gastown restaurant will close before the end of the year. After nearly seven years in business, Boneta (12 Water Street) will shut down after service dinner service on December 23.

Mark Brand, who co-owns the restaurant with Neil Ingram, made the announcement over social media today (November 26).

“The decision was made to go out at the top of our game heads high. We opened it to make change, shake shit up and be the best. I couldn’t be prouder with the results.”

Boneta opened in 2007 at 1 West Cordova, which currently houses the Save On Meats pop-up while the restaurant undergoes renovations at its original location. In 2011, Brand and Ingram moved Boneta to its current location, inside a new development called The Garage.

Brand owns restaurants Save on Meats, the Diamond, Sea Monstr Sushi, and Portside Pub.

I'm not surprised to hear this. The guy seemed to have too much on his plate already.

too bad. i, however, had a terrible meal at the original location and never went back. i had heard decent things since. it'll be fine, we have lots of other restaurants we can eat at until they close.

Bummer. I liked this place and always enjoyed the atmosphere and food there. Best of luck.
