On a rainy Saturday, Union Gospel Mission managed to bring a great deal of holiday cheer to low-income residents of Vancouver and New Westminster.

The charity served 2,859 Christmas meals in three locations today.

It was the organization's 75th annual holiday feast.

Union Gospel Mission noted in a news release that the meals required 2,500 pounds of turkey, 800 pounds of mashed potatoes, 700 pounds of vegetables, 800 pounds of stuffing, 300 litres of gravy, 260 litres of cranberry sauce, 3,900 dinner rolls, 600 pumpkin pies, and 400 litres of ice cream.

The main location was at 601 East Hastings Street at the corner of Princess Street.

Secondary locations were at the Women and Families Centre (616 East Cordova Street) and 658 Clarkson Street in New Westminster.
