Dubh Linn Gate Irish Pub is not actually a pub. Not just yet, for a part of it.

It’s a restaurant with a food primary licence that allows it to serve liquor at its 1601 Main Street location in Downtown Vancouver at the Olympic Village.

Dubh Linn Gate Irish Pub opened in August this year.

Now, its owners want to convert part of it into a neighbourhood pub.

If its application is approved by the Liquor Control and Licensing Branch of the B.C. provincial government, there will be a restaurant and a pub operating at the same place.

As far as the City of Vancouver is concerned, it has no problem with this move.

Council on Wednesday (December 16) endorsed the application of Dubh Linn Gate Partners (Vancouver) Company to convert 84 of the 245 seats in the restaurant for a neighbourhood pub.

A staff report noted that there will be no change in the capacity of the place. The food primary establishment will have a reduced seat number of 161.

The report stated that respondents opposing the application are concerned about noise, drunkenness and disturbances with patrons, and the establishment’s closeness to residential buildings.

The fire and police departments have no issues with the partial conversion, according to the report.
