For those looking for a glass of wine and a bite to eat before a show at the Arts Club’s Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage (2750 Granville Street), there’s a new option in the South Granville hood.

The Stable House Bistro (1520 West 13th Avenue), which opened last December, is tucked away a scant block west of Granville Street in a location that formerly housed a clothing store. The small, softly lit spot accepts reservations and focuses on simple European bistro fare, with a short menu that includes house-made soup ($9), charcuterie and artisanal cheese platters ($7 to $25), and the bistro’s signature savoury tarts, such as the smoked salmon with crumbled goat cheese one ($14 to $17 each).
