Firefly Fine Wines and Ales is relocating its Vancouver store at 2857 Cambie Street to a new and much bigger location a few steps away.

The wine shop is actually staying in the same L-shaped site kitty corner to city hall, which used to be the Plaza 500 Hotel.

The former hotel fronting onto West 12th Avenue is currently being converted to rental apartments.

Firefly will occupy the space that was once the home of FigMint Restaurant and Lounge at 500 West 12th Avenue as its new address.

Store manager Juliana Vergilio said that relocation may happen towards the end of this year.

“For sure, we’re going to do a bigger tasting room, and that will be something amazing,” Vergilio told the Straight by phone.

According to Vergilio, the store will also have a bigger cooler in the new location.

The relocation is subject to a development permit application filed by development consultant Brook Pooni Associates to change the use of the former FigMint Restaurant space to a liquor store.

In a letter to city hall, Brook Poni indicated Plaza 500 Hotels Ltd as the owner of Firefly.

The new Firefly at 500 West 12th Avenue will be 6,500 square feet, which is double the current store sitting next door to Yuk Yuk’s Comedy Club Vancouver.
