The Sasquatch Stout from Chilliwack's Old Yale Brewing Co. has won the title Beer of the Year at the 12th annual Canadian Brewing Awards, given out in Fredericton, New Brunswick, last Saturday (May 31).

Old Yale's website describes its Sasquatch Stout, which is brewed with oats and roasted chocolate malts, as "black and robust with lots of body, just like the mysterious animal itself".

B.C. breweries won in other categories as well. Gold-medal winners included Coal Harbour Brewing Co.'s 311 Helles Lager as the best North American Style Premium Lager, Mission Springs Brewing Company's Trailblazer Pilsner for best European Style Lager (Pilsner), Parallel 49 Brewing Comapany's Old Boy for best Brown Ale, and Russell Brewing Company's A Wee Angry Scotch Ale for best Scotch Ale.

According to the CBA website, more than 900 beer entries were received this year from nearly 140 Canadian breweries, up from 760 entries in 2013.

The Brewery of the Year award went to Ontario's Great Lakes Brewery.

      Congratulations to the winners.

I'll have to try the Mission Springs Brewing Company's Trailblazer Pilsner - that's my favourite type of beer.

No mention of Steamworks' Pilsner? I do believe they won last year(?) for best beer. Unsure of which category, but after having sampled it at my local LCBO, it's my current favourite beer.

No affiliation, just needed a replacement for the discontinued Okanagan Springs Lager; turns out I prefer the Steamworks Pilsner anyway.
