Last month, Vancouver’s women in beer gathered to craft a special brew in celebration of International Women’s Day, and this Sunday (April 17), the beer will finally be available for public consumption.

The International Women’s Collaboration Brew Kettle Sour Gose will be released during a launch party at Central City Brewers + Distillers’ downtown restaurant at 871 Beatty Street. (The sour- and salty-tasting gose—pronounced "goze-uh"—is an ale brewed from more than half malted wheat and the remainder malted barley, fermented with both yeast and lactic bacteria.) The event will take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The gose—which features hints of coriander and sea-salt—was concocted by women from Bomber Brewing, Big Ridge Brewing Co., Moody Ales, and R&B Brewing Co., who were led by brewmaster and CEO of Dogwood Brewing, Claire Wilson.

“There’s a lot of young women coming into the industry who weren’t in it before, and it’s nice for them to collaborate and to talk and to share their experiences,” Wilson told the Straight at the time of brewing, “because [brewing] is still very much a man’s game.”

For every glass of gose sold during the event, $1 will go toward the Pink Boots Society, which works to support and empower women working in beer communities around the world.
