Coconut sap makes Chocolat Naturel's brownies a sweet treat

Ever tried coconut sap? The natural sweetener is a key ingredient in Chocolat Naturel goodies.

West Vancouver chocolatier Pierre Gruget replaces refined sugar in his products with coconut sap, dried dates, maple syrup, and honey. You can find his line of dark and milk chocolate bars at local stores and farmers markets (see chocolatnaturel.com/ ).

The decadent gluten-free mini brownies ($5 for six) are particularly delicious, with a slight crunch from roughly ground rice flour; they’re stocked at Frux Frozen Organic Yogurt in Lonsdale Quay Market (123 Carrie Cates Court, North Vancouver), East West Market (4169 Main Street), and Stong’s Market (4560 Dunbar Street).
