"Pumpkinstein" Frankenstein pumpkins arrive at Urban Fare in Vancouver

If you're just not into carving a jack-o'-lantern, Urban Fare has another option: buy a Pumpkinstein instead.

The Vancouver grocery store is carrying Pumpkinsteins, which are grown in moulds to look like Frankenstein, at all four Vancouver locations and its store in Kelowna.

The pumpkins are grown organically by California farmer Tony Dighera, who, according to a news release, experimented with 27 varieties of pumpkins before perfecting the mould.

Right now, Urban Fare says it's the only place in Canada where you can buy them—for $79.13 each.

The Pumpkinsteins are indeed edible, and if not carved, will remain fresh for four to six weeks after Halloween.

      Cash grab

Urban Fare is an Urban Joke. In a myriad of ways.

Flying in bread every morning? How delicious can that $100 loaf possibly be? More delicious than the fresh loaf I can make at home for cents on the dollar?

Is that square watermelon any tastier than the oval ones? Sweeter? Juicier?

Yet another example of Vancouver catering to its society of excess, while there are real social problems which must be addressed, and yet people spend and care more about a moulded pumpkin than human beings.

I don't think its a cash grab. A little pricey but people who can afford it will buy it. Those who can't (including yours truly) won't. I think it's ironic that the commenter writes about social problems... Most likely typing on some high tech device which only 5% of the world's population can afford.

I shop at urban fare almost every day and love the place. Theyve made it easy for my family to shop organic and that's why I keep going back. And if I had the extra money I would probably buy one of these pumpkins :)

Wow dude, relax. Why is that a joke, should all businesses focus on nothing but social problems? It's a shame the internet is flooded with people like you who only focus on pointing out everyone else's shortcomings. Lighten up. Enjoy a few novelties.

First off, if you have the money for a hundred dollar pumkin or watermelon, then go go for it. Secondly, Urban Fare has not carried the $100.00 loaf of bread for twelve years and it never was $100.00, it was $39.99. If you wanted it decorated, you paid more for your company logo.
